Poker Chips Values

If you are planning to host a poker game or a poker tournament, it is a good idea to know what your poker chips are worth before your guests start arriving.  Although you can make your poker chip values what ever you would like, sticking with the normal chip values will make for less confusion.

Many poker chip sets come with 3-5 colors, which is great for a poker tournament.  Common colors are white – red – blue – green – black.  If you have those 5 colors, stick with the recommended poker chip values and you will have plenty of chips to progressively raise the blinds through out the night.

If you aren’t playing a poker tournament, but decide to host a cash game, and a $1 minimum is too rich for your game, you can divide that values by 100 and have chips worth $.01 $.05 $.10 $.25 $1.00, which conveniently makes for easy cashing out at the end of the night.

If you have a set of poker chips that have the denominations already printed on the insert, then stick with those values for your poker tournament or your game, other wise the other poker players are going to get confused.    It is also a good idea to print out a flyer for your wall of the poker chip values for people to reference throughout the night.

How Many Poker Chips Do You Need ?

We recommend that you get a poker chip set of at least 500 chips.  500 poker chips are enough for a tournament or a game with about 10 people, you will start with 40 or more chips, so everyone has a nice stack in front to begin.  If you are going to have a lot of people playing poker, ratio accordingly, for 20 people you will need a 1000 Chip poker set.
