The Best Day For A Poker Tournament
27 June 2008What Day Is Best For A Poker Tournament?
If you want to get poker players to your tournament it is important to pick the right day of the week. You need a day when people aren’t busy, aren’t out on dates, and hopefully, aren’t too drunk to play poker.
When I host a short poker tournament, one with 10 or less people, I always try to do it on a Wednesday night. Wednesdays are the best day for a poker game because there is nothing ever going on. People don’t have dates on Wednesdays, there aren’t any good TV shows on Wednesdays, Wednesdays aren’t pay day so people aren’t interested in going out and spending their money. In short, Wednesday is the perfect day for a poker game.
If you chose an uneventful day such as Wednesday you can get a regular game going with out worrying if people are going to show up or not. You can plan on playing the first Wednesday of every month, or every other Wednesday, and your poker game will be the high priority plan. If you pick a Friday or a weekend, you’ll have to deal with people taking trips, people visiting relatives, people doing house work, etc. So if you pick a good day to host, and follow the other basic rules on how to host a poker tournament, you’ll have a good game going in no time.
Large Poker Tournaments
If you are going to have a large poker tournament, one that will take 5-8 hours to play, then there is no better day to do it than a Saturday. With a large poker tournament, you never know how long the game is going to go. With the right mix of players, it could be done in almost no time. With a different mix of players, it could go all night. By hosting a large poker tournament on a Saturday, you will ensure that you don’t have to cut the game short, just because you have to work the next day. Since you likely won’t be hosting a large tournament on a regular basis, you don’t need to worry about picking a day which is good for people week in and week out. You can just pick a single Saturday, and let people plan around it.
